A large lorry parts company based in the UK contacted the data recovery centre for advice and solutions to recover files from a damaged Samsung 80GB hard drive. The telephone diagnosis was carried out and a collection was arranged for the drive.
Here is the case study for the Samsung HS08XJC hard drive:
The drive belonged in a Dell laptop, the user in question said the computer was shut down as normal and when attempts were made to restart the machine it wouldn't go past the BIOS.
Diagnosis:
The diagnosis report carried out found that the head stack assembly inside the drive had come into direct contact with the platters inside the drive, making the drive not spin, hence why the user couldn't go beyond the BIOS. A repair was carried out in full cleanroom conditions and the data was successfully recovered.
Spec of this Samsung HS08XJC hard disk drive:
80GB total storage capacity 1.8"
Manufactured September 2008
5400RPM

What was the outcome?
After the repair of the drive and an image was created of the data, a full recovery was achieved and the data returned to the client on DVD, in total 10GB of data was extracted from the disk, great result!
