In June 2011, a client from Malvern, Worcestershire, contacted the labs here at Data Recovery England on behalf of a client who had lost critical business data on a Seagate laptop hard disk. This was collected via the free collection service offered by our labs.
Here is the case study:
The hard drive was installed inside a HP laptop, the client says that the laptop was working great for 2 years. After a trip to a UK destination on the train, the user attempted to boot the notebook, however this failed, client says there is a feint clicking sound emitting from the computer.
Diagnosis:
The drive was received the very next day after pickup and a diagnosis was carried out on the hard drive to establish the cause of failure and what can be done to recover the contents. The drive clearly had an internal issue, the engineers found the head stack parts had failed, so needed to be replaced.
