WD Western Digital hard drive and disk data recovery services are supplied to all clients who may have suffered from data loss with this brand of hard drive.
Our labs have seen all types of failure with burnt PCb (Printed Circuit Board) being amongst one of the highest failure types for this brand of drive, this failure can be caused by overheating or power surges to the smooth motor control chip and will be evident with a electrical noise and or smoke from the PCB, do not attempt to repower the hard drive as it is in a degraded condition and could cause more damage to the WD PCB or head stack assembly.
Some clients attempt a DIY approach to recovering the data buy swapping the PCB, please do not attempt this as if the WD HDD has suffered from a power surge then the HSA will be damaged and will require replacement in our clean room.
Another issues seen by our labs is firmware failure this can exhibit itself as the Western Digital hard drive not detected in the BIOS to reporting the wrong size or capacity, another failure is that the WD hard drive will report as an alias such as Mamoth WDC ROM, Sabre, Hawk.
Other failures include a knocking or clicking sound comming from the hard disk this repetative noise is an indacation that the HSA has failed and will require replacement in the clean room to complete the hard drive recovery.
